Soon to come...DTT trans,builder question

Made the call to DTT earlier in the week. They refered me to a shop- J and H Performance in Redding CA, about 200 miles north of me. Talked to Joel, and was impressed with the time he took to explain a few questions I had about the trans. Seemed very knowledgable about his craft. He mentioned changing the plastic fittings in the tranny lines. Anyone heard of this or have had problems of them melting. This was the only thing that I thought was odd. A $400+ upgrade. Any input about this and the shop is appriciated. Always a little nervous to spend$4000, especially on something like a trans. Alls I have to say is this thing better shoot sparks out of my butt!

I can varify that the stock fittings on a mid 90's (mines a 95) auto transmission are not the best.
It was just a few days after buying my truck, my wifes first time to drive it, one of the clips that hold the trans line to the heat exchanger broke. Blew trans fluid all over the road.
She had no idea that this had happend (again, being the first time she had driven it). She just barely made it home.

There are no replacement clips for these, Dodge no longer sells them. Dodge, (and most other trans shop) sell an upgrade that does away with the stock trans line clips.

The local trans shop for me quoted about the same to replace the stock clips.

There is a TSB out on this for diesel trucks and I think these clips caused a recall, but I think the recall was only for gas engines. (Not absolutely certain if it was a recall or just anothe TSB for the gassers).

I replaced my tranny lines with Aeroquip stainless steel braided hose and fittings. There cheaper than stock lines and rated to a 1,000 psi.

I just got all the updated lines from Dave Goerend for around $350 delivered.

You might want to call him about a trans as well. I've had his trans in for about 3 weeks now, and it keeps getting better. Cost me 4 figures less than what you're talking about, I picked it up at the local freight terminal and installed it myself.

Great trans, and Dave's customer service is on par with Bill's......

I lost the tranny out of a 96 at 36,500K because of the plastic fittings. I had a heck of a problem getting Dodge to cover it. Took me months and then they put the new tranny back in with the same crummy plastic fitting. Changem out or you will be sorry!

I'm learning quickly, that the moajority of your trans is setup before being built, and after installed when the pressures are fine tuned, and shift points dialed in.

No drop-in tranny will ever perform like a tranny that's been tuned on the road, and in the shop by an experianced tranny builder.

Thanks for the info on the fittings. I had just never heard of this problem. Cowhand- Goerends tranny did cross my mind. Ive considered all of the BIGGER companies. Research,research,research... Every night for about the last 2 weeks, nothing but tranny threads. Though some are entertaining.
