I don't know if taking the rack stop out is a good idea. I have read that you can break some kind of small pin in your pump and then it gets expensive. Go to www.dodgeram.org and you will find lots of info for these trucks.

The only thing the rack stop does is stops full fuel until boost comes up and then it moves out of the way and then the rack hits the fuel plate and yes it can be removed the is a 10mm bolt on the front of the afc take it out and the is a small thin plate with a slot in it pop and pull it out and then the rack stop will come out then slide it back in and put the 10mm bolt back in.

I've run without a rackstop for probably 30,000 miles or more now, and there have been times when I've had to completely let out of the throttle on a hard acceleration and got turbo bark from it, but its never harmed my pump.

Yes if you take out the rackstop it will give you more black smoke because all its doing is throwing maximum fuel in at low boost which = unburnt fuel which = black smoke!

I believe the "smoke screw" in question is the AFC spring inside your afc housing, and if it is then once you take the rack stop out its my understanding that any adjustments to the AFC spring are worthless because taking the rack stop out baiscally "guts" the AFC housing.

i would leave the rack stop alone and slide the plate forward, slide afc forward, and turn star wheel. turning towards the engine will back off on spring presure thus letting more fuel come on sooner............. ...............
