Smarty vs. Comp

smarty over the edge comp. I have posted a thread on the smarty now im torn bewteen the smarty and edge comp, ive had a EZ with 100 horse injectors and loved it. Im wanting something that had some more kick to go with the sticks, i heard of the smarty with its low end kick and the comp with its good power band. i want to know which would be better to have. i do pull a trailer @12-15k sometimes to the mountains. trans has already been built. ive read the smarty dies off after 2k with its power. so help me out yall

It's an apples-to-oranges comparison.

The Smarty doesn't really "die off" above 2K-- it's just that the bottom end is so huge that the top end seems comparatively small.

If you look at a dyno sheet from a Smarty truck, you'll see a torque curve that's mountain shaped, with the peak right at 2K. I think this actually the case for almost all CTDs unless an aftermarket cam has been installed.

The comp will have much more "area under the curve"-- or total power available throughout the rpm range. It makes more power. There's really not debating that.

While the Smarty doesn't make as much power overall, it's the QUALITY of the power delivery that makes the Smarty so addictive and well-loved. The bottom end it delivers is simply brutal. It simply a one-of-a-kind product, so there's not really anything that directly compares.

I prefer the driveability and overall combination of pros/cons the Smarty has when combined with larger injectors. But I prefer to use the pedal to control power level, while some think an adjustable box is more versatile.

If you want something that will complement your setup and add power why not look for a fueling box such as a tst or blue chip? You can turn the fueling box off for towing.

I just re read your sig, if you are pushing 40 psi on HX-35 you might want to look at a turbo before adding anymore fuel.
