Smarty trial....im getting one!

WELP....we had a small DTR meet at my place this weekend. AND just so happends that one of our members had the Smarty tuner! All I can say that is was a TEASE! MAN! I wish i had a better clutch to hold what im sure i was missing out on! I only tried #7 and #9. I felt that #7 was LOTS smoother on delievery but non the less very strong! #9 was just insane! 5th gear romps at speed were just mind blowing (well the ones that held)!! I wish i had more time to try the other settings. Others had Comps boxes....and were

ALSO, on a positive note.....we had a very cold morning here in North Texas. Just so happends that one of our members started up their truck to go into town and after a bit.....the idle ramped up! The funny thing was that we unloaded the Smarty out of his truck the night before!! SO when you install the Smarty and then go back to stock, the stock program automaticly enables the High Idle and 3 Cyl Idle for that truck you used it on! THAT IS VERY COOL! I will be glad for the 4 to 5 times a year that i will get to use it!

After i get my clutch thing figured out........i am going to hunt me a Smarty down....Anyone else that was at my house feel free to chime in! We all had a "Hit"!

Geez that thing was fun. My tranny DEFINATELY did not like it though. I can't wait for my catcher to get here tomorrow. It's going to be on.

Oh yeah, we were just like kids lining up for the newest ride. I took my test drives Friday night at 11:00pm to make sure that I got my chance in just in case the roads got icy the next day.

Now we're more like addicts looking for our next hit.

That high idle feature is the stuff. That was so cool when that kicked in today. Sat there and waited for about 10 minutes and the truck is sitting at 160-180*. I love it.

What temp does the high idle kick in?? It was 27^ and it never kicked in.... I'm on #9 now, hmmm do the Catcher programs have the high idle enabled or only the stock programs it reloads into the ECM after unlocking it?

I remember seeing a post that all the Smarty programs have high idle enabled. 27 degrees isn't cold enough, though. I think it has to be 20 or lower.

Yep, all the smarty programs including the stock programs have the high idle feature enabled I'm running the fuel saver program now because my clutch doesn't like the smarty. If I floor it the tach goes to redline and the speedo stays put

Computer parameters to activate "High Idle" are...
-Intake air less than 32*F
-Coolant Temp less than 140*F
-Trans in "N" or "P" (autos).
-If you hit the accelerator pedal... the high idle disengages.
If you plug in the block heater... or park in a garage, the high idle probably won't work!

The interesting thing is... after you try a Smarty and than take your truck back to Stock.... it resets to Marcos "stock" program... not to your trucks factory "stock" settings. Thus, the High idle is still activated.
Down side, I think, you will loose your recalibrated speedometer correction for oversized tires... if you had that done in the past!

I didn't lose mine. I checked it on the way home and every mile marker was exactly one mile on my odometer. I was also running the same RPM at 70mph that I ran before the smarty. So at least mine stayed. But then again, I also had mine reflashed by the dealer instead of with the smarty. I wonder if that makes any difference.

Hey man, don't bogart the Smarty
That thing was awesome. Probably gonna order mine this week.
My truck is stock performance wise (see sig.) and we put it on number 7. Amazing throttle response, almost instant spool up of the turbo. I even got a little puff of smoke out the tail pipe down low when I got on it, that was a first. The truck was a totally different beast, can't wait to get one.

I've choosen to leave the high idle activated even in the stock files. In some way Smarty sez " Thank you for testing" ...

The ABS correction with Smarty works this way:
When you change the ABS pinion factor, Smarty STORES the value the ABS was set to before the change. When a truck is turned back to stock then Smarty restores the original value back into the ABS. You started with 33''? You finish with 33''....

Guess I did not loose my speedo reset. Had been done for 285's and now running 315's so hard to tell for sure.

Mine came in on Friday and I unplugged the EZ and loaded #9. INSANE! You can't shift fast enough to keep up with the engine.

I then loaded #4 and it is perfect for me. All the power of the EZ (and more in the rev range I use) and similar delivery, but without any of the noisy timing issues that the EZ has on the HO motor. Did a 200 mile trip on #4 and it's great.

Now I'm going to try #5 to see if I like how the HO motor acts with the timing.

This is a very nice product and I'm impressed with how well polished it is given how new it is to market. Good job Marco, and Bob's service is 1st rate.
