Smarty arrived!

Well I was welcomed by a package when I got home. Contents were a Smarty and a $100,000 candy bar. Went to the truck downloaded SW4 and went for a short drive, Comp off. Noticed right away its real easy to make smoke, in fact it will do it with a quick rev in neutral. Also noticed that I build boost much sooner, the HTB2 spools "right now". The bottom end was better. Drove about a mile and pulled over. I put in SW8 comp still off. Bottom end is much better, and pulling into traffic felt effortless. Right before I got home I put the Comp on 2x2 and did a short little blast, felt even better, but missing the top end punch of the comp on higher settings. I'll try higher comp settings tomorrow and maybe SW9 with comp off to test the full capabilites of the Smarty timing. So far I like it. The truck seems to get out of it's own way now

When still in the lower sw's I previously stated that I didn't see a puff revving in neutral, but now with the higher sw's I can most definately see a cloud. I want to see how the mileage differs from sw-1 to sw-7 before I decide which one I want to run.

Can you build boost by revving in N? I can only get 1 lb =\

I'd like to hear how egts compare w/ the comp on/off with the smarty, especially in comparision to your pre-smarty egts. I was thinking of starting a thread, but guess I'll just hijack this one =P

Egt's seem to be about the same maybe even lower, got it to about 1200-1250 on a wot 5th gear run, SW#8 and comp on 5x3. I'll check egt's with the comp off and post it here.

Thumbs up

I took it back out tonight to try with the comp turned up. Man, 4th gear runs are insane with SW#8 and Comp on 4 or 5 . Really pulls hard down low and in mid-range. Top end feels about the same so far, but I didn't expect the top end to change any. When driving up a small hill near my house, the throttle seems really touchy as it wants to fuel hard and make boost quicker with the slight load from the hill.

Yeah, on #9 mine will do that, too. Seems if I blip it slightly, let off, then hit the throttle a bit harder it'll puff a bigger cloud.

I'm pretty sure you'll get me, yours feels stronger on top. I haven't ran from a dead stop yet either, Not sure the clutch will like it.

maybe a 5th or even a 6th gear roll on or something. i still have to screw w/ the turboguard as it hangs open during quick shifts . i'll have to get out of it on top anyway because i'll be WAY to hot to stay in it

I bet you'll find higher EGT's with any boost over 45 psi! Please let us know?
Not familiar with the PS66 but that seems to be the rule with ALL large single turbos.

talked to paul @ HTT and he stated that i should be about 1/1 drive pressure @50 lbs. may be a touch under 1/1 if that means anything. he also said that when i was at 40 lbs. boost bumping to 50 lbs. would cool it down a bit. make sense?

Your third Gen is a whole different animal, so, maybe .... but the turbo does not know what truck it is on. All it knows is if it's over reved and getting hot! At least that's my logic on the subject.

Easy enough to check out. Do a timed, WOT run with 40 psi & one with 50 psi. Read max EGT's and ..... maybe measure how many sec. it took to get to max. Should tell you a lot.

I've done this with three different after market turbos and all of them were happier (cooler, and higest HP) between 40 & 45 psi boost.
