So do I understand correctly that the Smarty does not stay hooked up to the truck at all times, or does it go back to stock settings once removed?

 

Once you program the software in you can remove the cable and the software will stay there. When you return the truck to stock then it removes all of the smarty software and returns all of the settings back to stock.

 

So then there is nothing to keep two buddies (me w/ my 98.5 and him with an 01) from splitting the cost?

 

I guess I should have clarified. The smarty will only work on one truck at a time. To move it to another truck you have to program the previous one back to stock first and then you can upload it to the new truck.

 

Bummer!! Though I do suppose that makes sense. If you could do more than one; what would keep someone from buying one and then charging other for programming.
