Silencer Ring

Has anyone noticed any big gains after taking your silencer ring out? I've read a lot about it but just don't understand? How do you take it out?

I thought I read somewhere that if you removed your silencer ring it would convert your turbo into a phatshaft?

I dont see how, it was initially installed to reduce turbo noise on road going cummins. the industrial units dont have a silencer as i am told.

You need the yellow silicone hose to the wastegate to make it a phatshaft.

removing the ring hurts performance. it with the straightening vanes in the tube reduces side shear in the turbo

I have had mine in and out, for extended periods, and have noticed no difference whatsoever, other than sound.

hodge you do not see it much driving unloaded, it shows up on heavy haulers. most of us replace the tube with a coolhose and a T.A.G to further decrease side shear. we also install a psm kit

I can kinda see how that would make sense. Helps with good laminar flow

What is this coolhose, T.A.G, and psm kit you speak of?

Not a phatshaft, a stage 1. You need to read in Diesel Power to see what I'm talking about.

Its hard to believe that after all these years there are still rumors as outlandish as this about a simple small metal ring still floating around.

I think all the diesel forums should have a pop-up upon registration that you have to read in order to complete it, explaining all the basics!

Really? I removed the silencer ring out of my S469 and I made an average of 82.3HP more over 3 dyno Pulls.

Pulling the silencer ring was the best thing I've done to my truck yet, next to putting high torque windshield washer motors in. I can see for miles and miles.
