shft kit
To the original post I think you will find the torque converter is the weakest link to holding power. The trans itself is pretty stout.
I just installed a Transgo shift kit in the new stock valve body in my new stock transmission. It really improved the shifting, pumps in Park, and the line pressure and shift points are still adjustable just like any other valve body.
Dave Goerend was a consultant during the development of the TFOD-Diesel and says its a decent kit and will work just fine if you don't want to spend the money on a new valve body.

You cannot just throw one of these shift kits in and go. You MUST put a pressure gauge on and check things out. I have done countless shift kits and can honestly say YOU NEVER GET IT RIGHT ON THE FIRST TRY! Every truck is different and so takes different pressures. If you only have to drop the pan once, then chances are your not getting the full benefit of the shift kit. Turn the pressures up till you have problems, then dial it back a little.
Never had someone not happy with a Trans Go.

..........AND, this is the proper tool for checking pressures. Good price too.

That's the one I bought. It looks like a quality unit for the price. I haven't hooked it up yet. After the first week of driving the new tranny with the newly modified VB is performing awesome.
You can find the valve body installation manuals for some of the big name brands, like BD, on the internet. They specifically say to check the pressures after installation to ensure that they are within their specs.
