SDX 100 HP Injectors

Looking at getting 100hp SDX injectors...

Of course I know NOTHING about injectors and they have a number of different ones (6 hole, 7 hole, VCO)...

Which ones do I want?

I'm planning on running these with the stock turbo (empty of course) until I can get the funds together for twins...

i plan on getting sdx injectors too when the funds allow from my research and understanding they have 5 and 7 hole. more holes allow for better atomization of the injected fuel but then u have to go with smaller holes since theres more of them ( think total amount of fuel injected). the 5x14 are equivalent to the 7x10 i believe but ur best bet is to call them up and explain ur needs to them. im guessing with a stock turbo 5x12s will be plenty, but depends on ur needs and long-term plans for the truck. lotsa ppl like buying the 'biggest' injectors or turbo cause they plan on making 1000hp down the road and dont wanna keep 're-buying' them. imo thats the wrong way to go about it cause u wont be happy with the individual performance of the parts. there are combinations that work and ones that definitely dont.....but now im venting lol im sure others with chime in.

Both Chris and Jamie (owners of SDX) are good friends of mine and make excellent products. They are both very sharp and can tell you everything you would like to know. Just call and get their recommendation and tell them I sent you!

If it were I...I would wait and get the Injectors and the twins at the same time...that way you match the fuel to the air properly and end up a happy camper

Too much fuel and not enough turbo is just as bad as too much turbo and not enough fuel.....just doesn't work right.

100hp injectors really aren't that big, and the stock turbo will handle them pretty well. When I bought my last set of injectors from SDX, the smallest 6-hole injector was something like a 6x16, well above a 100hp injector. I ended up buying 7x12's, which are roughly 250hp injectors. This was two years ago, though, so things might have changed.

Any idea if the 5 or 7 hole version will run cooler or would it be the same b/c of the same amount of fuel being injected?

I will call them... Will they know you as Backwoods Bumpers or something else?

There's that idea, but I was thinking I'd put the injectors in and see how hot it gets in there and then order the twins. THis way I don't end up with too much turbo or too little turbo based upon how these particular injectors react in my truck... I can limp it to and from work even if it's hot and I don't tow all that much or all that often so I might get them in there and then go from there rather than play the adding game...

100hp injectors and 5280ft (or 10,000+ feet) might make it a little hot though? Especially when towing...

But I'm definitely open to suggestions on size.

You'd be better off with the stock turbo at those elevations than a larger one. Higher you go, the lazier they get, and that'll create higher EGT's faster. If you want a high elevation towing setup, get twins with a tiny secondary.

Your 5 vs. 7 hole debate, I have yet to hear of a 5 hole injector for the 24v. 5 hole injectors are most commonly on 12v trucks. There is a vendor or two that now sells 7 hole injectors for the 12v. Your options are pretty well limited to 7 hole VCO's. SDX might have 7 hole SAC nozzles now. Best to call and ask.

You can say Backwoods Bumpers or Evan House. We pretty much grew up together and we're from the same town. And if you talk to them pretty soon - tell them I'm ready for my set!!

It would be 6 or 7 hole for 24V non Common Rail Injectors. You would not need the 6 hole as they are a more performance based injector nozzle. I know the 7 holes are VCO under 7x0.012" with the new nozzles they are using. So if you get 7x0.011"-7x0.010" they will be VCO from Chris and Jamie.
If you are wanting to go compounds down the road I would just wait until you can put compounds in as you will need a bigger than 100HP injectors in my opinion for decent compounds.

I agree with Backwoods Bumpers, Chris and Jamie do good work. They recently put together a set of 5x0.016's (200hp) together for my ol 12v. Highly recommend them.

That is correct. I have some old DDII's (90hp) and the egt's can get pretty toasty draggin my steel lq horse trailer. Add a head wind or a long pull and the egt's will stay between 1,000 and 1,200*. It sucks on a long pull because I have plenty of power to keep rolling but I let off and downshift when I go over 1,200*.

That's the difference in DDP and SDX, I wouldn't hesitate to pull with 100HP SDX injectors, much cleaner and alot lower EGT's, in my opinion a far superior set of injectors for sure.

Hmmmmm.....

So maybe I want to do some 100 or 125hp injectors and just an hx40 hybrid turbo. Lot more fuel and little more air... (never seen more than 1200 egts even on the longest of steepest of highest pulls loaded in Colorado)

I'm leaning toward doing the injectors first so I can see what turbo/turbos I'll need after I see how these particular injectors react with my current setup.

I have heard they are cooler running injectors, so maybe I'll need bigger ones to start with...

I have the equivelant to SDX 100s in our 98.5 24V with the Smarty, If it were me on your setup, I would go with the 150HP injectors and look at a S300G over the HX40. Just my personal opinion as 300Gs are similar in cost to a 40, but flow a ton more air and spool rather well.

I said DD not DDP. Are they the same? I have no idea. I believe it's more of altitude as I am at 7,000 ft. It's a different truck 1,800 ft.
