Scotty 3 update
Well have run a few tanks through with the scotty 3. Still haven't towed with it yet so I haven't had a chance to put it through its' paces. Mileage seems to be up just a tad. Smile factor is way up as it sounds soooooo much better. Turbo really whistles while it works!!
If only it wasn't so boring looking. Wish I had a sticker...

Re:Scotty 3 update
Funny, I'm thinking about the opposite.....I think I can hear the turbo better, not by much though. Seat 'o the pants I notice no difference. Haven't towed yet, but I don't think there'll be a difference performance wise, based on empty performance. Don't have any gauges yet so maybe that's where the gains are. Also, per the computer, my mileage went from 16.2 to 16.1.....so, the jury's still out here....
Re:Scotty 3 update
Most people would highly recommend you totally ignore the overhead computer as far as mileage goes. I hand calculate every tank full, so I am 100% confident that I know exactly what my true mileage is.

The overhead computer gets a bad rap - while it may not be dead-on accurate, if you'll do a reasonable sampling of fuel mileage over several tanksfull of average driving, then compare that manual calculation to the computer, you can then factor in it's known error to use it for fairly reliable spot checking - and it IS a good tool for monitoring instant fuel mileage under changing conditions - towing at different speeds/grades and such, and finding which gears are most efficient in differing situations - absolute accuracy in those situations might not be as important as determining running difference that ARE accurate enough to be valuable - I'd lots rather HAVE that mileage computer than NOT!
;D ;D
It's sorta humorous the guys who will put an EGT probe AFTER the turbo, then see NO problem doing constant mental calculations to estimate the temp loss thru the turbo - but think mentally adjusting the MPG of known error in their MPG computer is too much work...
;D ;D
My compass may be off a bit - and the temperature might not be dead accurate - as well as some of the other features, but I use that stuff for general info, and my truck as transportation and a tow vehicle - not a rolling scientific laboratory... ;D ;D ;D

The computer is a running average unless you reset it. I don't know how many miles it accumulates, but after a 1000 miles or so, it takes a lot of change to move it just a little.
I noticed quite a bit of difference in my RamAir while towing. It definitely has more guts and reduced my accelleration time with that big white thing hanging on the back. EGT's came down a little, but I have not hit the 7%'er for 8 miles yet. I probably will never know what it would be stock, because I don't intend putting the stock one back on. I do think spool up is quicker. I do think the greatest gain is on the BOMBed trucks, but I am pleased even while bone stock. Any help on the EGT's with a big trailer is a help.

As for te compass and temp being off....Can't you reset the compass by pushing certain buttons and then driving in circles for a while? There is something in the owner's manual about it.
I am not talking about just resetting the mpg/DTE part of the overhead.

Re:Scotty 3 update
My MPG on the computer was about dead on accurate until I put the Edge EZ on, now it is about 27% off on its reading. I wish their was a way to recalibrate it for use with the EZ.
I have the Scotty Air III also but really can't say anything about it against the stock box. I put Exhaust on first which really helped the turbo out. Then the EZ and then the Scotty last with guages, never ran the stock air box with guages to tell temps.
I do know that at 30,000# GCVW you can go from a dead stock full trottle through the gears and not hit 1250 until you get to about 2700 rpms in 5th gear, shift to 6th and it drops right down. Cruisin down the road in 6th full throttle on hills will get you about 1100 deg. I think if I have to down shift to 5th and run 60-65 mph that the EGT will get to high, but I haven't hit a big enough hill to down shift for yet ;D
Oh ya, the Scotty air really makes the exhaust brake sound way better 8)

It's my pot and I'll stir it if I want to. If you're not careful, I'll stir your's as well!

Does anybody have any idea how many miles before the Scotty 3 filter element has to be changed? I know conditions make a big difference, but just trying to find a rough figure.

We haven't wore one out yet, Stan. Scotty's got over 100K on his, and its still fine. I think aFe states they're good for 100,000 miles.

just cleaned my scotty 2 element this morning, the first time since I bought it (about 40,000km) was she ever dirty
the fact I was smokin like a frieght train at low boost with the comp on 5x5 kinda tipped me off (mileage was still good though)

(WHERE'S MY LAUGHING SMILEY, THORPE???)
I've honestly never cleaned my own filters. The bad part about having all the product here is that when my filter was dirty, it was extremely easy to walk to the shelf and grab a new filter ;D
I have several dirty filters in stock, if anyone needs a spare. ;D
