schrader valves and guage help

Ok- got autometer pyro, boost, and fp guages. Got the two bushings from 3/4 to 1/8 for the boost hookup. Got a needle valve from napa and 3 ft of 1/4 inch fuel line. Got an appointment next week to have this instaled into an a-pillar.

Now I need a means to hook up the fp guage. Reading through the plethora of guage help threads I read you can get a schrader valve to hook up to the fuel filter and run the line from there. The people at the parts counter get this dumb look on their face when I say schrader valve The closest thing I could find at napa was a Ford EFI apaptor w/ schrader valve p/n 700-1488.

So what do I need to hook up the fp guage- one of those fuel filter caps of Genos, a banjo fitting,..... or can somebody please give me the P/N for the schrader valve fitting??

Anything else I'm missing?? Thanks in advance

You can get a tapped banjo bolt, it replaces the banjo bolt in the botttom of the fuel canister. I think this is the best place to put fuel guage so you can still use the shrader valve for secondary testing at the vp44 if needed. This what i used until i switched over to the vulcan big line kit. Genos, diesel manor, vulcan performance sell them.

Go to any A/C supply house and get a refrigerant hose for the old R-12 systems. The hose will thread right on to the schrader valve at either the VP or on your fuel filter housing. The other end of the hose is female 1/4" flare. You can get whatever fitting you need to go from there. That is what I had to do because my truck is still under warranty. I talked to to folks at the dodge house was informed that if I was to go replacing banjo bolts or installing the Vulcan lift pump relocation kit that I bought, I would have problems getting the lift pump or VP replaced under warranty. Thats why I used the schrader valve and the refrigerant hose. You can also buy a tee at the same supply house that will fit on your schrader valve and has another schader valve built into it so you don't lose the use of a schrader valve.

Real easy to hook up and take apart if you need to.

Geno's garage sells the line for $19 easy install from the VP. You will need one more adaptor found locally, home depot or the like to install to the 1/4 NPT on the isolator priced for around $5.

Ok thanks- now the schrader valves are located right next to the bango fitting on the vp and on the bottom of the fuel filter?

Well that's interesting. Geno's used to only sell the "short" hose. Guess they figured if you can't beat em, join em!!

Its always a good idea to leave the test fitting on teh VP 44 free - thats what its there for - a test fitting.

Get a tapped banjo bolt and install your needle valve on the oulet of the fuel filter housing.

Do a search for Moose10 and take a look at his pics.

Time is of the essence since I scheduled an appointment to have the guages installed this week. Fuel line from Geno's is on the way. So this connects right next to the banjo bolt/fuel line on the VP44? and won't connect to the fuel filter w/o a tapped banjo bolt? And if I'm using the service port on the vp then I could just disconnect it for service? If they have to take the plug out for service so disconnecting a line shouldn't be much difference?

I'm still trying to learn. From working on my bike I've learned that I destroy all that I touch- so I figure I'll get the pros to do most of my part installs. I've got a 4" MBRP waiting for me outside as we speak which I am going to attempt. Disaster story to follow

There seems to be some confusion here....

What I am trying to point out is that the best place to install the guage feed is on the bottom of the fuel filter housing using a tapped banjo bolt.

Banjo bolt assembly should look like this:

https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...cat=500&page=2

The final product should look like this:

https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...cat=500&page=3

And this:

https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...cat=500&page=3

Obviously, the hose runs up to the guage in the cab.

Me confused Never??!

So you're saying that I need a banjo bolt regardless where I install?
I was just looking at Moose10's pics when you posted.

The hose from genos is about 2' long and connects to the shrader valve on the VP44 test port. Agreed it's not the best place but easly removed for testing, I called my dealer first to see if they would have a problem with it and they didn't. I ran the hose from the VP to the drivers side by the hood hinge to my isolator and then ran from the isolater into the cab with the supplied lines from my auto meter gauge.

HTH.
