do Southbend clutches DD's come with a special flywheel? and do the new ones have the HD ball bearing? kind of a dumb question bu the website leads me to believe it comes with a flywheel with special inserts...I should probably know being I orderd one last week
, bu it isn't here yet and I am trying to get my ducks in a row

You will get a new flywheel, 2 discs, 1 pressure plate, a center section/flywheel, new bolts, new throw out bearing, and a spacer for your starter.
When I ordered mine I asked Peter if I needed the upgraded hydraulics, and he said no.
Well, after I put the clutch and new trans. in and it didnt shift right.
I called Peter and he sent me out the upgraded hydraulics and,
Now its smooth as butter.

If I understand right, the special inserts are just to help in the rebuilding process so that they can just put new material in place of the old instead of turning it and losing material. Also supposed to hold better and last longer. Or at least that's the impression I got.
The inlayed bronze material also "grabs" better under high heat (slippage) where as steel when it heats up forms a gas layer and almost prevents the clutches ability to grab. The bronze inlay will also wear off or shave off over time so you get a fresh face to grab to where as steel would not.
Another thing early dual discs with steel faced flywheels experienced issues with material build up on the steel face itself causing a whole host of issues......that would result in failure.
Most issues were caused by intentional slippage and street driving where the clutch would heat up.
Inlayed flywheels are far superior.
