Running Boards - previous styles available?

I reposted this to the accessories category:

I installed the dealer supplied running boards on my 1995 2500 Ram pickup. They were black rubber (maybe vinyl?) clad heavy metal types, that were sealed up next to the rocker panels. I had them installed full length and it made it possible to reach into my drybox in the back. They eliminated the chance of gravel chips on the rocker panels.
The local dealer tells me that they are no longer available, although many owners of these running boards on the older trucks are coming in and asking (unsuccessfully) to purchase them for their new Ram pickups. They were also competively priced at the time at $700 CAD for a full set. Given the potential market, I don't understand why they are no longer being manufactured.
The parts guy says he has communicated the demand to the distributor dude and that I'll just have to wait and see if they start making them. Apparently the manufacturer is still in business.
The number of choices for running boards is pretty slim right now.
Has anyone got any news or thoughts on this topic?

Re:Running Boards - previous styles available?

I just installed Mopar running boards on my new 03 2500
shortbox HO with the 48RE. The directions SUCKED. Once
I figured out how to correctly install them it was pretty
easy. I love the running boards but the directions from
Mopar sucked big time. Cant help ya on running boards for
a 1995 2500 though !

Are you stuck on owning only that particular brand/style? I'm sure that you should be able to find something comparable with what came stock from any aftermarket company...ie: Westin, DeeZee, Lund, Smittybilt etc...etc. Were they perhaps factory fiberglass and that would maybe be why they aren't able to duplicate? I'm just guessin' here... ??? Good luck on your hunt... ;D

Re:Running Boards - previous styles available?

I put DeeZee running boards on my 2003. I had them on my last pickup and really liked them. They protect from rock chips really good and I like the looks of them. They are the FX extruded aluminum boards. I got them through a local distributor for $325 (cab and box boards both). I installed them myself which is very easy to do. Hope this helps.

Thanks folks, I checked the Dee Zee site yesterday and found a number of choices available. Thank you for the names of the manufacturers. I'm sure I'll find something suitable.

I like the mopar boards that are on my truck. They blend well with the truck and protect the lower body from rock chips.
