Removing exhaust housing
Removing exhaust housing
i have hx35 with 12cm exhaust housing that I am having a hard time removing just wondering if anyone had a good way to do it. I was going to try to heat the exhaust housing and then maybe it will hammer off. The reason for removing is I found a wastegated 14cm housing that i was going to put on. any thoughts would help thanks
It has been my experience that you do not want to pry betwwen the cartridge and the housing. You will most likely break the cartridge. You can try to heat up the housing with a torch and beat on it with a hammer. I personally would just start working on it with a hammer. You may have to really hit hard and work around it. It should pop loose. You may end up breaking the housing.
if you use a hammer just be sure to alternate sides. if you get the housing cocked too far to one side, you will damage the blades on the turbine wheel. the turbine wheel is the most expensive part in any turbo. as you hammer away, stop and make sure you can spin the rotating assembly every couple of wacks. any binding or rubbing is a sure sine you are about to ruin your turbine wheel
Most of the time nowadays I have to use a torch to heat up the mating flange on the exhaust housing, then use a hammer and tap it off...don't forget to alternate sides while tapping with a hammer.
