Red Pump Or Blue???????

I am wanting to increase my fuel pressure on my truck, since all the recent upgrades, im worried about my VP-44!! At an idle it running about 11-13 PSI, and cruzin at 70mph about 9-10 PSI. When i pour the coal to here it gets down to about 2-3 PSI. I was wondering about intalling a Holly pump to increase the PSI i dont know weather i want to go with the red or blue, i dont wont to force so much fuel i break the diaphram of the VP, but i also dont want to starve it, yuor input would be greatly APPRECIATED!!!

Either one will work. I chose to run the blue because I want no less than 14 psi at WOT.

The Holley Red has a maximum pressure of 7 psi, that is not adequate for WOT operation of the VP44 in weather over 75 degrees F, and will lead to cavitation wear of the timing shuttle housing.

Neither the Blue or Red pumps are recommended by Holley for Diesel, and with the new diesels this could lead to corrosion. I would opt for the Holley Black, which is compatible with nitro based fuels, and will not corrode from the exotic alcohols used in the new ultra low sulfur diesels, but costs about the same as an AirDog or FASS.

At idle I have around 27 psi and just cruising down the highway I see roughly 5 psi less.. Going WOT I have around 17 psi.

I went with a Red Pusher over 2 years ago. I've still got 23 psi @ idle and 15 psi @ WOT. I've had no issues with this set up its been very reliable.

I guess anything is possible. I just have never heard of it happening.

Allright I've got a question. Can either the Holly Blue or Holly Red be used as a "booster pump"? I'm currently running the dealers in-tank lift pump "fix" and a new Cummins lift pump as a booster. The new lift pump does have a internal bypass, so's if it goes out the in-tank pump can push through. Kinda like a limp mode. But I think I should upgrade.......

all i have to do is splice in the line between the tank and the LP put the holly in and run power and ground, just checking to make sure and i leave the stock lp there and just run them both.

If you go that route, you might want to put in some over size fuel lines. I went with a -6an aeroquip fuel line from Summit, but yes thats how to install the pusher pump. Theres plenty of info on the hook up and a variety of fuel lines, like Vulcan etc.
