Recipe for a stock to mild 99

Hello all - its been a couple years since I've been active on this board. But after almost 100k on my 99, I have decided that I might want to wake it up a bit.

Let's say I can sneak $1500 to $1750 or so past the Mrs. I use the truck mostly to haul a slide-in around the Sierra's and sometimes have my 04 Wrangler in tow. Of course I want power, economy, and longevity.

I'm happy with my stock clutch, so that is going to be my cap on power. Truck is 100% stock now, but I do have the standard fuel pressure gauge and have a boost/ EGT waiting for nice weather to install.

That said, how does this look:

Air intake (probably AFE stage 1 PG 7) - $250
Smarty - $650
Injectors (which ones???) - $500
Exhaust - just dump the muffler or go with a whole new system?

None of these is cast in stone - I haven't started buying parts yet. I only want to do it once though. I am fairly convinced on the Smarty though, because it has the added benefit of being able to update my computer with the correct 49 state programing.

Any comments?

Thanks,

i would get an intake and exhaust first off, since u already have gauges. a good 4" would be good. if u want to keep ur stock clutch, i wouldnt go anywhere over a drag comp. i had one on my truck and stock cluthc did fine. i like the aem dryflow filters b/c no oiling them. look for a used smarty, u can get em cheaper than 650, or maybe look for a drag comp or regular comp box.
i now have an adr but it killed my stock clutch so .....

Hi I would install new exhaust min 4in. intake and edge juice.w/ad.pinch off the waste gate hose. For the intake I installed a k/n filter and put holes in the bottam of the air box.cheap and works. You should look at doing a fuel transfer pump up grade.

dont go with the exspencive name brand filters, just go down to yer' local checker auto and they have round filters therethey dont go big enough to fit around the old stock tube but the stock tube fits around the rubber part on the filter, this can be done for like 20-40 bucks, just reuse your stock rubber tube the goes down to the turbo and you can spend your hard earned money on something else more useful.

i hope this works for the newer 24v trucks, i did this on my 94

The smarty is a good choice but if you didn't want to spend the money a Quad XZT is a pretty good mild box and its updatable. I have one on my truck and like it alot. I originally just cut out the muffler on my truck but decided to go with a full 4 inch straight pipe. I think the 4 inch sounds better than stock exhaust with no muffler. I blocked off my waste gate, the truck will hit 30 psi of boost now and it woke it up a little doing that. I currently have a Amsoil Nanofiber BHAF sitting on the shelf I need to put on my truck. I was gonna do an aftermarket intake but for my budget the BHAF is just fine. For injectors I'm thinking of either installing RV275's or Mach 1.6's. After all that I should have a fun daily driver and tow rig. I would guess it would put me a little over 300hp with all that, that enough for me to have some fun.

i feel mine is on the low end of mild. once you add the programmer and injectors i feel you will be addressing low fuel psi.
