Quick boost question ??
Quick boost question ??
I just installed my boost gauge tonight and started er up... I didn't get a boost reading until I got up around 1500 RPM, is that normal or should I get a boost reading of some kind all the time? Other than that I drove around and got on it a little and got the boost up to around 26. Is this good for what I got? maybe dumb question but thanx in advance!!!
Boost is a representation of work or stress put on the motor. The motor is not stressing at 1500rpms, but when you are in the higher gears and driving it hard boost will rise fast because the motor is having to work alot harder. So to answer you question, yes it is normal.

Like Jamie said...perfectly normal!
Not a "dumb question". While the turbo is spinning all the time... even at idle....it takes more than idle exhaust gas to spin the turbo fast enough to register boost pressure on the gauge.
At hwy cruise (70-75 mph) with your auto, I would say boost should be 8-10 psi, if I remember correctly. If so, everything is as it should be and the gauge is working correctly!
