does battery #1 and #2 have to be the same?
i was thinking of making battery #2 a deep cycle.

I would recommend keeping them the same. Different batteries will charge at different rates, requre slightly higher or lower charge voltages. You may find that one may try ot discharge the other to maintain its charge. I don't think it is something I would do.
