Questions about my diesel purchase

Alright I have a question before I go to buy a diesel of my own, I am an engineering student just coming out of college. Should I buy a 5-speed / automatic and then convert it to a six speed(this is actually what I want to own), or should I just go on the neverending search for a good six speed. I don't have a lot of money but I could finance. Just curious to what people think would be the best theng to do. All opinions are apreciated. Thanx!

Buy a 12V

convert it to six speed, save some money (less than a 24V on many cases) Enjoy their ease to tinker with, convert to a six speed and have fun BOMBing..

OH yeah.. welcome to DTR!!

Go with a 12v, I dont mind my 5 sp. Def. a ton stronger than an Auto. If your are going for gas millage a cummins is the diesel to go with. I get great gas millage with my beast. 12v are very easy to work on and with you Engeneering skills it shouldn't take you long to get the hang of things. Look through the classified sections here and see what is there. Good luck and welcome to the sight!

BOMB = Better Off Modified, Baby!!!!!!

I own both.

The auto is JUNK. the 97-98 (i think) 12v have more power than their predecessors.

My stock 12v feels stronger than my slightly modded 24v.

I would also suggest a 96-98 12 valve. 12 valves are very easy to add power to (BOMB). I'll be getting the truck in my sig here in a couple of weeks and I can't wait . Welcome to the DTR.

Now that we have clarified that I should get a 12V. Should I convert from an automatic or should I convert from a 5 speed. Which would be easier firest and which would be less costly?

I would think it would be easier to convert from a 5 speed. You would already have the pedal assembly there along with alot of other things you would need.

It would probably be easier to switch from a five speed to a six speed.

Gas Milage and just thought the 5 speed sucked since it had a crawler gear and then 4 other gears. Plus its more fun to drive a manual
