pyro probe placment
Anywhere on the rear (back bumper) side of the manifold. There is a rib running full length, down middle of manifold. Since rear 3 cylinders may run warmer than front 3, you want to measure their EGT. Suspend end of probe into MID air stream. Away from any metal surface.
Not a great picture but...gives you an idea...
Good luck

I will also suggest to step your drill bits out too if you hadn't already planned to do that....also nice & easy with the tap...back it out to clean the threads if there's a lot of buildup.

My brother is an airframe mechanic. United teaches all of their mechanics to use at least two bits to drill cast. When you make the pilot hole small cracks develope around it. The second pass cuts away all of those cracks and minimizes the chance of a crack developing from the drilled hole. Just FYI

My only other question is the difference between where RJ said and where Piers said is the proper placement, although they would both be measuring the back 3 cyl.So I'm guessing either one is fine. Or is it critical that the back 3 need to be monitered more?

Piers told me the back three cylinders run hotter on a 24 valve but on a 12 valve the front and back three are about the same.
