Putnam XDR hitch???
#2
I've got one, its held up to two sled pulls so far Still hardly any slop when you put a drawbar in. Best part is it's a no drill application. I think I got mine from hitchesonline for a bit over $200.

I have one, getting ready to install it. It threw me off because while it is no-drill, it uses some pretty big holes in the frame, ones that were not originally intended for the receiver, and not all of the hole in the receiver are used when bolting it up (like 6 out of 8 are used). I have been talking to Putnam about it and they say they have never had a reported failure, even using those big holes.
Crimedog, does yours use the big holes in the frame?
I got mine for 175.18, including shipping, from SouthwestWheel.com.etrailer.com (they're the same company). Order a bracket for your 7 pin trailer socket while you are there, as you are not supposed to weld or drill the receiver if you want to keep the warranty in tact. They have one at etrailer.com than mounts sideways on the receiver just like stock, but has a strap that goes around the receiver to hold it in place instead of drilling or welding to it.
Compre the hitches. Mine has the extra bracket from the recall because the hitches were breaking.

Are you talking about the slots? They gave me some big 1/4" square washers so the bolts aren't going to pull through. Other than being slotted, they were bang on. One thing I will add is that I have a 10" Luverne drop bumper and I got the 10" drop bumper hitch. You can see in my photo gallery how incredibly nicely it tucks under the bumper. There isn't more than 1/8" between the bumper and hitch. Definitely quality!!

What I am saying is the larger holes in the frame, near the holes the factory receiver used, are what Putnam says to use. See attached. They did included some large "washers", rectangular pieces of 1/8" metal, of varying lengths, with holes drilled in them.
In the pic, they say to use the holes that are in pink. The holes for the original receiver are the smaller ones around the big ones. The only holes from the original receiver it uses are the ones in the center, at about 8" on the ruler in the pic.
And if using those holes, my shortbed truck will only use 6 out of the 8 available fastening points on the recevier itself. This appears to be be design, but seems odd to me, which is why I am asking others.
Thanks,
Chris

I went ahead and ordered one. Got it from www.performancecenter.com for $135 out the door. Cool deal!

New info. I'm not sure I will use that 7 pin mounting bracket I mentioned before. I installed the receiver Saturday and it's WAY up under the bumper. I'll have to mount the trailer socket under the receiver, I guess.
Pics coming soon.

Just got finished installing the new hitch ... what a beauty! Much nicer than that factory POS! You'd hardly know the darn thing was there! Looks like I'm going to have to invest in a new ball mount!

I'm not concerned. If it was an issue, Putnam would have to take the brunt. I really don't think they'd lay themselves out like that! That's a big piece of steel (backing material) to draw through that 1 1/8" hole!
