Purpose of boost fooler

My BD boost fooler was giving me codes (I hope that what my problem is) so I unhooked it yesterday to see if I still got the CEL (0217 low map sensor voltage) and haven't so far. Anyway, I was always under the assumption that if you went over stock boost (19psi) that it would throw a code, hence the boost fooler???? I hit 26psi a couple of times today and it didn't throw a code. Am I wrong or is my truck just a freak?

I have the same fooler and I've seen 34psi with no code, you might have a defective fooler. I'd give BD a call. I dont think going over stock boost will throw a code but i could be wrong. the engine should just start defueling at 21psi if I'm correct.

The ecm doesn't throw codes the second you get over 20, but will shut things down fast past 30 lbs. The overboost code is p0234.

I can't get past 28 lbs so I guess I don't need one...until I put on the XZT+. Do you think it will get me to 30lbs?

If you overboost repeatedly codes will be thrown, but you can clear them with your superchips. If that box taps the pump, then I would expect more boost. Are you going to run the superchips and the quad together?

Almost any box will do this plus add timing and a bit of fuel. I'm sure you can do it, but if you have any intentions of bombing just get a box =P

On the subject I'm getting the p234 all the time when I tow our TT, clear the code, tow again and it's back with a 1693. I will hit up to 32psi boost but I thought the EZ would stop the code with the boost fooler. The EZ is set on level 1 not 3 for towing. Plenty of power compaired to stock.

Is my EZ not working correctly?

Thanks

I have the same truck and the same chip, and even the same J-hook. I have never got an overboost code.

Do you ever get over 30 psi boost? I ONLY get over 30 psi boost if it shifts into 3rd pulling a grade with trailer, 4th is always 25 psi max if pulling hard.

I'm going to call Edge on Monday and see what's going on.

My problem is no one can read my 1693 except Dodge for $$ that I don't want to spend yet.

Thanks.

go to autozone (and possibly some other auto stores) and you can borrow their code reader for free.

doesnt sound like the EZ is functioning properly...it has boost fooling and shouldnt allow the ECM to 'see' any boost over ~21psi. give Edge a call...

Since you have a 2002, you can do the "key trick" to see codes. Just turn the ignition on (to the "run" position) without starting the truck, and then turn it quickly off and back on 3 times. On the third time, the ECM will cycle through a code reading sequence in your odometer window, followed by "p-done". It does two sequences-- a PCM and an ECM, so a CEL can be from either.

Hope this helps.

Thanks everyone, I know about the key trick and my local store will clear the codes but I'm also getting the p1693 with my p0234 they just can't tell me what the p1693 is, I guess I'll go to dodge unless you know of a store like Auto Zone that can infact read the p1693, mine can't.

Thanks again.
