pulling with a comp box
pulling with a comp box
IS ANYONE PULLING WITH A COMP BOX ON SETTING 5X5.LIKE 10,000 PLUS POUNDS.AND IF THEY ARE WHAT MODS ARE THEY RUNNING WITH IT.CAN YOU DO THIS WITHOUT BURNING YOUR MOTOR UP?
I have pulled a 18,000 lb. equipment trailer with 2002 truck equipped with the comp box from Edge. The secret is to really keep an eye on the EGT and do not try and start out by flooring the throttle, as that will pull the headbolts loose and lift the head.
You want to be really careful of the automatic transmission's TPS, as with the increased power at lower throttle settings the TPS does not depress as far as it was designed to, and you can end up with shifting problems and low line pressure. DTT and others have a resistor kit to offset this problem with the TPS.
The other thing to watch is fuel pressure on the inlet side of the VP44 injection pump. That is critical to keep the lubrication and cooling to the pump.

I have towed grossing out at 23K with my Drag Comp on 5x5. That was with the 35 - 3B twins and Bully Dog 4 injectors. The highest EGT was around 1150°. Was a lot more fun tha towing in stock set up.
