Angry Problem with FASS II

THought this might interest a few folks. I recently had a problem with
my FASS 95 gpm fuel pump. Problem was it just quit. Downloaded the
troubleshooting manual and went through that. Found that one
of the brushes was stuck and would not contact the commutator.
THe brush was actually stuck in the motor and took quite a bit of fiddling
to get it out. Once I got it out it was pretty obvious that it was bad. THe
top surface is rather dished in and the whole thing is not even square. Can
easily see how it could get cocked in the motor and not be spring loaded.
In the interim I have peen pulling the brush out every 400 or 500 miles
to reseat it. Ok so a bad brush right?
Problem starts. Try calling Diesel PP to get some new brushes. Can't. THey
don't even give out a number or address on their documentation or website.
The website does say you need to go through the dealer network so I do that.
Turns out brushes are not covered on their vaunted warranty, even when they
were bad from the start.
End result is that I now need to spend $30 on new brushes even when DPP
should stand up on this. I don't have much faith that the 4 year warranty
is worth much at this point. Lets no even mention that you can't contact
DPP with problems. I really expected a bit better on this for $600. One other
note is that another source tells me that the FASS eats brushes anyway and DPP
still won't cover them. Shame on DPP.

BTW I do know that there are likely many out there with perfect FASS experiences
but keep in mind that it's how you're treated when things go bad that's more
important. In this matter DPP seems to be playing me and likely others.

fass update

Additional info. I just replaced the brushes for about $30 + $10 in fast shipping. The old brushes showed that the wires were discolored darker (from heat?) with the problem bruch being mishapen. After replacement the motor ran a bit rough for a while but seems to have smoothed out some. I checked my records and I have about 20K miles on these brushes. At $40 per 20K miles the FASS system will cost about $800 per 100K miles. This is not much better than the DC lift pump, infact in my case it's much worse that the stock system money-wise. I suspect the aircooled brush issue that someone previous to this posting mentioned is a major factor. I also looked over the hoses carefully and they are showing wear from aging as well. All in all the FASS system is far more expensive than advertised and I'd look real hard for alternatives before plunking down money on this product.
