Power steering observation
I wonder if everyone realizes that when installing an engine it is necessary to tighten the power steering pressure hose? After 55,000 miles they tend to come off if only finger tight....

The key to being a successful screw up is getting yourself out of the messes. Now why is it that these things only happen between 2:00 and 4:00 am? I did it wrong.... my screen name should be Murph, not the truck....
I have power steering oil running down both fenders, and well coated on the inner liners...
I looked through a dozen repo's looking for fluid, finally put my battery in one and "borrowed" it. Guard asked what I was doing, I told him roadtesting it....
Stupid part is, I remember leaving it loose till I got other stuff mounted for the best angle of the elbow. Hmmmmmm, I found it (the best angle)
Now you need to take a fast run down a dusty gravel road to coat the oil with dust so it will hold on longer and that is the best undercoating around and least expensive. It's a great rust inhibitor.

Technically the new uncoated steel driveshaft on mine should be reeeeeeally rusty after 2 months of northern winter, but the steady coating of ATF from the transfer case leak means that it's still bright and shiny! This is also true for the driveshaft loops and exhaust tubing. I guess the truck likes to baby itself.
brandon.
I wish I was as happy about my oil leaking pig of an engine (it think's it's a Detroit
) as you guys are. I can't stand the 4'x4' oil spot on the barn floor where I park mine.
I think I've narrowed it down to the vaccum pump, though. Now, I've just got to fix it
