Drivers side actuator sounds like it is working, but the lock tab is not moving.

 

here is a lock tab inside the door attached to a steel rod that goes up to the button. Another tab goes to the lock mechanism and I can't recall if they are moved by the same linkage. You need to go inside the door. The lock assembly is sold as an assembly and has new lock tabs on it. Not difficult to replace but you will need some replacement Christmas tree fasteners for the door panel, some usually break.

My 96 did that on the passenger door. Had to put an actuator in it.
