from post turbo to pre
from post turbo to pre
I installed my pyro pre turbo and now a friend wants me to do his. I loosened my turbo up and slid a piece of cardboard in to catch the shavings but his I can't seem to loosen up. The bolts are on tighter than I ever seen and I've used every type of lub i have trying to get them loose. Can I drill the manifold anyways and grease the bit and tap//I mean what are the odds of messing his turbo up if i let a shaving get in there...thanks, Larry
When I did mine I just put grease on the drill bit and drilled a little clean the bit put on more grease until I went through. I did the tap the same way. I then took one of those pocket magnets that looks like they are on a small radio antenna and fished around until it came out clean. You have to really push it in there. 800 miles later and on problems. Others on this site have done it this way that is where I got it from. Just take your time.
Hope this helps.
Good Luck

Use your shop vac with the crevis tool and get your buddy to hold it right beside where you're drilling.
It will catch 90% of the shavings.
Then grease the tap.
Stay off the throttle for a few seconds when firing up afterwards, &....you should be OK.

got it finished up for him and thanks for the help folks. I just get real (make that REAL) cautious when something could hurt the turbo. I don't know but I would imagine one little shaving would be all it would take. Mine and neighbors guages are finally finished and now to move on with my life Ha. What takes you folks minutes takes me hours coz I'm not a good wrench turner but I'm the only one around here who will even try things. I wouldn't mind doing another one for someone but not in this lifetime.
regards and happy weekend, Larry
