Exclamation Pop in front end is driving me nuts

Ok. I took the truck to the car wash the other day because it was to cold and I was to lazy to wash it myself. Since then, the truck has started popping in the front end whenever I turn real sharp at slow speeds (10 mph). I've gone through and tightened everything, greased everything, check the luke's link, sway bar, tie rods, pitman arm, steering stabilizer, everything. Everything is tight and nothing is binding. It will also do this when standing still and I turn the wheel all the way from left to right. It sounds like it's coming from the passenger side but nothing is binding. You can feel it in the floorboards and sometimes through the steering wheel. All of this started happening after the car wash. I watched the truck go through (it was a Mister Car Wash) and nothing went wrong. Any ideas? Thanks for the help AGAIN yall.

Check the Skyjacker mount that relocates the trac bar. Mine was loose and it would make the POP noise when turning the wheel. Have someone turn the wheel while you watch it. I then welded the bracket inplace to keep it from coming loose. I then had to cut the welds to remove the lift kit and install the parts you sold me from your truck.

I had a simular problem, turns out it was play in the front u joint off front of transfer case, there was no torque play, but if you climbed under there and two handed it up and down you could feel the play.

Good luck, Bret

My truck is doing the same thing and what is funny I went and washed my truck yesterday and it every time I turned or came to a stop it would pop sounds like we have the same problem mines been doing it for about 5 or 6 months and I have had into three different shops (not dodge houses i'm out of warrenty and don't have the money for them just to look around all day) and nobody has found anything wrong with it from all of the steering linkage to ball joints or anything else. So if you ever find out what it is please pm me and let me know and I will do the same, I can feel it in the floor board and everything just like you explained they are identical symptoms and it drives me nuts I'm affraid that something is just going to fall off or break while mashing on the go pedal one of these times.

Throw me into the mix, too Since I threw the plow on it started to do this. I know exactly what you mean about the noise coming through the floorboards. I figure it has to be the track bar mount that loosened up, I'm going to recheck it after our snowstorm hopefully that's the problem.

Ball joints!!........I have had the same problem in the past!...........replaced the ball joints and the pop disappears........high directional loading of the ball joints ie, turning sharp at slow speeds and/or increased front end weights (like a plow!) can cause this pop sound from them.......inspecting the ball joints even with them loaded often produces no apparent symptoms because there is not the same amount of load like braking and changing the direction of these front end heavy vehicles........my pop sound would only become apparent when I had my heavy slide-in loading the front end more over stock but it would eventually start popping empty when slow speed turning........I could never find the problem......I would check and recheck everything (including the ball joints) and never found a problem..........After the ball joints were changed out the problem was gone completely and never came back.

I don't think it's the ball joints because when my other one's were shot(1/8"-1/4" of up and down play), there was no popping. I'll check them after class today. When I go to get my exhaust tip welded on, I'll see if he won't run a quick bead for the track bar mount. I'll keep yall up to date.

When I had ball joints that were completely shot they were quiet..........if you can't find anything else wrong it could be the problem.......ball joints with no apparent play were the ones making the popping sound........

when i had a popping noise in my truck, it turned out to be a broken bolt for the axle end of one of the locating arms, the bolt for the front end alignment, found it with the wrenchs, going around under the truck looking for something loose causing the popping noise, both pieces where still there, so didnt know it was broke untill i tried to tighten. also might want to check the bushings in the arms i had one come loose in the arm and was making all kinds of noise...

I had the sam eproblem turned out to be the trackbar . It appeared tight but when I was under the truck with someone else turning the steering wheel. I could watch it "pop" and move. I would get out the impact and make sure everything's snug.

I've repaired a lot of trucks with clunking in the steering, another common problem is the steering shaft where the 2 pieces slide together. I just pull the boot up and drill thru both halfes and install a small bolt/nut. Remember this needs to collapse if your in an accident. No more noise.
