Places to Mount a Scanner & Ham Radio

Well guys I’m looking to mount a BC350C scanner which is pretty small in size as well as a FT-1500M Yaesu 2M Amateur Radio. But I’m really not sure where I can mount something like that in the truck.. I really can't see any good spots so any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated... Thanks

Someday I'm going to remove the fold down cup holder found in automatic transmisson equipped trucks.

Then fab up something to hold the CB, Scanner, switches for lights, maybe a guage or two, maybe even a cup holder big enough for a super big gulp.

Someone here, name escapes me, is doing just that, and has pics in his album.

Rob,

Id like more info on the way you mounted your scanner.
Where did you mount the brackets to the seat?
Or, did you mount the scanner brackets to the floor and the seat?

Rich,
I drilled holes in the ends of flat bar and pulled out the 2 front bolts that hold the center seat to its brackets. I slipped the bars in between the seat and the brackets, reinstalled the bolts and tightened everything back up. I did this a few times to get the bends right in the bar. As you can see, I ran a piece of bar between the bent bars for rigidity and for something to mount the scanner bracket to. Total cost was under $5 for material at Home Depot.

A freind of mine mounted his CB in fron of the center seat, built a braket mounting off the seat frame. It's handy and not in the way of his shifter, the seat doesn't move so no broblem there, only two up front though.

I use a RAM mount RTV'd to the underside of the dash lip to mount the head of my FT-8900. The FT-1500 is small enough to to mount on the plate. Then it will be at eye level and easy to operate. The mount is highly adjustable, and all you'c have to do is rotate the plate into the horizontal position, and mount the radio. I fished the control wires behind the dash plate and down to the radio which is mounted to a seat bolt.

I use a Ram Mount for my GPS. It is a suction cup on the window with a cradle and an adjustable arm like Comma's. They make good stuff. Very functional, the cradle is specific for my GPS and fits like Garmin designed it. I have been very happy with their products. They aren't the cheapest, but their stuff performs it's intended job very well.
