Pics of Reunel bumpers on '03?
Hey, guys,
Anyone have pics of Reunel bumpers on your '03? The pics on the Reunel site are zoomed-in, but I'm looking for a full-truck view. I was wanting to see how the bumper looks with the lines of the truck. Thanks!
Chris

Chris,
If you're thinking about a Reunel, I'd investigate thoroughly. They are a massive well built structure, but the paint jobs have really gone down hill in the last couple of years. My rear bumper is 1 year old and is rusting badly already with stains leaking out through the seams. I also had fit problems too that almost resulted in sending it back for a replacement. Something else to consider is all of that weight hanging out over the front end. With a winch, you're talking about nearly 500 lbs. Many guys recommend re-springing and or air bagging the front to prevent diving under heaving braking. I'm in the process of replacing the front bumper on mine, and have decided to go with aluminum up there. Just athought..... Tom

Thanks for the input, Commatoze. That's a good point on the weight - I'll have to talk to Reunel and get some exact figures from them. On your rear bumper, what thickness steel is used? I've heard they use solid rod on the grill guards, so I assume they'd keep the bumper heavy to match - maybe 1/4"? We've got a lot of deer around here, so I'd want something heavy. I like the looks of the Road Armor with the small guard (not the over-the-hood thing though), but they only use 3" / .105 wall tubing.

Re:Pics of Reunel bumpers on '03?
The stock on the rear bumper varies, but some of it's 1/4" thick. Put it this way, it will haul 15,000 lbs. with the opitional receiver. That's quite a bumper hitch! My aluminum bumper has 1/2" plate where it counts, and has been reported to be impervious to deer impact. it also weighs less than 200 lbs. I believe.
Re:Pics of Reunel bumpers on '03?
Would you happen to have a website handy for the aluminum bumpers? Is this the "Denver Off Road" bumpers I've heard of before?<br>Chris
Re:Pics of Reunel bumpers on '03?
Yes, but they are also the distributor for the Australian UTE too. Now that I'm thinking, I don't know whether either one has an '03 model yet. You can check with Layne at DOR at 970-858-4010. His web page has been down for a few weeks now.
Re:Pics of Reunel bumpers on '03?
Thanks for the number. Now that I was looking closer at the Reunel page, their model is just for the '03 - doesn't specify whether 1500 or HD. The frames are different, though, right? Thanks again!<br>Chris

Thoses are some nice bumpers. Kind heavy on the price compared to Ranch Hand Bumpers. <br><br>But that Stainless Steel would look real nice on the front of the Dodge.
Re:Pics of Reunel bumpers on '03?
Yes they are pricey compared to Ranchhand. However, if I lived up north where they put a lot of salt on the road, I would advise against a Ranchhand. Don't get me wrong they make good stuff, I had their bumper on my last truck and their toolbox on this truck, but I do not believe the coating would stand up to the winters/road salt. You would be reconditioning it every spring if you did not want it to rust.

I 2nd the notion to give Layne at DOR a call.<br><br>"Aluminum, the new Steel"<br><br>No rust.<br>Much lighter than steel.<br>Pert neer as strong. (almost guaranteed deer proof)<br><br>If the original DOR doesn't have a 3rd gen model yet, the Ute might soon.<br><br><br>phox

GO 4L0,
Not sure if this is what you want, but I'm planning on getting one soon. They are light and build strong. Not sure if they make one for the 03's yet, but you might want to call and see. Check it out...

This is the bumper I'm looking at buying.<br><br>Roar Armor<br><br>Does anyone know much about them? I think they come primered and you have them painted on your own. I like the Prowler serices, looks real clean when installed.<br><br>DB
Re:Pics of Reunel bumpers on '03?
Big dawg, thanks for the link - I'll look into those too.<br>DarrellB, I like the looks of the Road Armor about the best, I think (as long as it doesn't have the hood guard). Unfortunately, the tubing is only .105 wall, which just doesn't seem heavy enough to me. I run .188 wall in my grille hoop on my Jeep and still worry about deer. Perhaps they could use heavier wall tube for extra? I'll have to look into that.<br>Chris

I don't know much about them, except I heard on another site they were under new management.
