Pick-up modification question.

Tomorrow I'm going to be digging into the tank module to modify the pick-up and rollover valve. Someone said on another site that the pick-up screen is not necessary. Can someone enlighten me as to why not?

Anybody got any last minute tips??? I'm looking at enlarging it to 1/2" and maintaining the spring action of the stock setup.

If I don't get too frustrated, I'll make sure I take some good pics!

I'm hoping to do it from the top. I'll take a look at it before I do, but I think that's the easiest way ... since I've still got just under an 1/8th of a tank.

Cool

The in-tank pickup screen - affectionately known as 'the sock' - is the first line of defense between your Inj Pump and disaster.

I dropped the tank and found my module covered in rust! The screws on the side had worn through the upper portion of the module. The fuel line fitting protruding from the top of the module is steel and is rusted also ... looks like a new module for me!

Wonder how all that rust accumulated in a tank used only for light oil service?

Hey, rj - check sig in third post from top, or maybe this one, if I'm lucky.

Don't 'zactly know what's going on, here - sometimes sig is there, sometimes not

I ended up getting a new module. Dodge had one they had used to diagnose another truck, which they were keeping "for shop use only." Instead of charging me $409 plus tax, I got it for $269 plus tax ... not a bad deal!

This one is completely plastic, so no more rust! The pick-up is 1/2" too, although it drops to 3/8" when it exits the module. I didn't see any change in fuel pressure, other than my pressure being steady again. I was having trouble with a vacuum in the tank, which is gone, since the new rollover valve is much larger than the old and actually works! I've got a lot of pics of the old module if anyone needs them for troubleshooting!

Cheers,
Andrew
