Definetly look into a shift kit and converter too. If he does the converter first it will feel like he LOST power, but once he puts power to it the benefits will be realized.

 

Get an intake & gauges. Im running the Edge Comp, and I am very happy with it. IMO, I wouldnt run out and drop a bunch of coin on an exhaust. For about $40.00 he can go to a local muffler shop, cut the muffler and resinator out and fill the void with some pipe. These 24 valves sound wicked straight piped I think thats a good starting point

If your towing with a stock tranny and converter your gonna have problems with any box. My truck lost the lock-up clutch on my first pull thru the mountains. My dad's 01 lost this OD with a Van Allen box. If you tow heavy and often, you need a better tranny. Thats where I would spend your first bucks. Then buy a comp box and don't plug it into the pump until you have a better fuel system. The muffler removal helps to reduce your egt's and decrease your turbo spool-up time.
