Welcome to the site, you'll find a lot of knowlege here.
First thing, check the fuel filter again and treat the tank for algae, as that's what the black slime is.
You say you did replace the lift pump, or are you asking if you should?
Lift pump dying will result in those symptoms,
dying lift pump will also shorten the life of the injection pump (VP44).
On a 2002, you can check for engine codes using this method:
Turn key to on (do not start, just "on"),
turn key off,
turn key on,
turn key off,
turn key on and watch the odometer window.
Codes will flash in there, P ECU followed by the P code, P PCU, folowed by a P code, then P Done, meaning it is done.
Codes will be like a P 0500, P 0215, P 1693, etc.
Try this and report back.

MY buddy has an 02 and just took his truck in yesterday....same symptoms plus white smoke. Codes were - 0230 (Lift pump), 0216 (Injector pump), and 1693 (companion code)....both new pumps are going in today.

Your truck might still be covered under warrenty. My 2002 is covered by a 3 yr 36k miles as it is an early 2002. I bought the truck with 9.1 K miles on it so I got the extended warrenty.
BUT, I think the later 2002, mfg after June, or July, have a 7 yr 70 K warrenty. Check vin for mfg date. Let us know the good news/bad news.

Is that the only code you have??
If so, its not engine related - it has to do with the abs system....either youve spun the wheels or there is problems with the sensor on top of the diff housing. Disconnect the batteries again and it should go away....might even go away after a number of engine starts.
