When you say bottom bypass plate, what are you talking about? I should also tell yall that the only time the pressure drops like this is first thing on a cold morning. I can't tell you what it starts out at cause my gauge is all flamboozled, but I know the last time I checked it with a mechanical gauge it was 22 at idle when my gauge said it was over 30. All I know is that the gauge goes from reading EEE (over 30) to 12 at idle and 10 crusing, then it comes back up after ten minutes. It only does this when it is VERY cold out (mid 30's) and it is the first time it has been started in a while. When it's warmer out, it doesn't do it at all.

I don't know if it was cause my truck was plugged in last night (and it worked this time) or not, but my fuel pressure didn't drop at all from the normal pressure readings. Hopefully I've solved this problem.

My PE4200 just died after about 4 months.

What was the pump that Chris Sutton ran for 2 years before it died? I want to try that one now.

I thought you were having great luck with that pump Andrew. This doesn't look very promising. I wonder if anyone has gotten a pump to last longer than 2 years. Is it possible that since we are using the pumps to their full extent all the time that we are just over loading them? I wonder if putting a regulator on one of them and setting the pressure down to say 17 psi or so would help prolong the life of these pumps.

WAS is the key word. Then It died just all of a sudden, no warning.

This pump is just as bad as the stock one.

There's gotta be a solution to this problem. Why couldn't we use a mechanical lift pump of some sort? Might be more of a costly solution, but maybe it would last longer. What about a (heaven forbid I say this) ford or chevy lift pump? I've never heard of a ford fuel pump dying. The Chevy's don't seem to be all that bad either.

I really hope your not talking about the old Chevy 6.5 pump... it was horrible. You haven't heard of a lift pump dying on a Chevy Duramax because they don't have one. I think your pump is fine... when the grid heaters come on it always drops my preassure down to 5psi or so. Thats most likely your problem. At least these pumps come with a good waranty just in case.

That was my problem battering ram. I was talking about the Chevy Dmax (didn't know they didn't have one). My dad's old 6.5 had the original pump on his all the way till the day we sold it with 80K on it. I don't know if my pump has a warranty cause I but it new from someone who ended up not putting it on his truck.

Big Blue:

The bottom bypass plate is located on the very bottom
of the PE 4200 pump. It has four (4) screws holding it
in. This plate has a bolt/screw threaded into it on the
"IN" side of the pump which houses the spring that my
son (banshee) told you about. What you need to do
is turn that bypass plate competely around, so that the
bolt is now on the "OUT" side (towards the engine).

As "banshee" said, I have had alot of problems with these
pumps! I am back to using the stock Dodge lift pump
and am "pushing" fuel to it with a red Holley Fuel Pump
(90 GPH). So far I have not gotten my fuel pressure
below 9 under WOT. At idle it stays pegged at 16 and
rarely moves unless I accelerate hard. There is several
guys near us here that are running this combination and
they have worked well so far;........MUCH better than the
PE 4200 IMO.

Good luck!
