PDR HX50 Dyno results/impressions

Made a lot of changes over the winter. I was previously at 513hp now at 550hp with nothing but air. Yep got 37 hp with just airflow improvements, no added fuel. The mods included a PDR HX50, PDR ported and o-ringed head, PDR camshaft and ported ATS manifold. With all these mods taking place at the same time it is hard to tell which one had the most affect but I must say that the HX50 is a major player

The HX50 is a real wild ride. At my hometown elevation of 6000 ft it 's a little on the laggy side which is to be expected for a turbo of this size, but its definitely worth the wait because when this turbo "comes in" you better be pointed straight and be paying attention to whats in front of you It starts making boost (slowly) at 1200-1300 and once it gets to 20 psi at about 1900 rpm the needle on my boost gauge literally jumps to around 50 psi depending on the load or gear. The needle moves so fast its hard to watch

Dyno runs here

Cruising egt's are just slightly higher, maybe 50 deg. Towing a heavy load egt's can get a little hot if you don't keep the turbo spooled up. Running around empty (even when lead footing it) egt's are not a problem at all. I don't hit 1300 deg until somewhere over 95 mph WFO ;D ;D ;D
Why is the power band so short? Next upgrade 4k GSK. Sorry to say this but with P7100 and the HX50 that engine needs to rev. The power band should go at least to 3500 rpm.

Since you lost the engines natural peak torque at around 2200 RPM, you should make up for it with some high RPM torque (HP).

Still great numbers.

Which exhaust housing do you have?? I have the 17CM on mine...
I'll be on a dyno saturday with mine. All I have done to mine since the last dyno is move my #0 plate back .030 to keep the boost under 56 PSI.

Re:PDR HX50 Dyno results/impressions

drawson, I've got the 15.8 cm housing. At my elevation the max boost I've seen is 52 psi. and that is with the fuel plate centered. Good luck with your dyno run.

Christian Roth, At one time I did have the 4K springs but didn't like the touchy throttle tip in they gave. I use my truck mainly for towing and the touchy throttle is hard on the old drivetrain with a 5th wheel in tow. Also I don't like overspeeding the engine accessories at 4K rpm. My pump is set up for full fuel to 3400 rpm, the dyno operator was lifting at 3000 even though I told him it was good to 3400 :

Rammin on most done realize once you hit a certin point it stats to cost alot more just to get a little. The mods start to cost more and the outcome isn't nearly as substantial as when first bombing.

Re:PDR HX50 Dyno results/impressions

Ok yesterday I dyno'd again. All that has been done is the addition of the PDR HX-50/17 and moving my #0 plate back .030 from full rack travel. In dec I dyno'd at 493 HP with the PDR HX-40/16 and the #0 at full rack travel, yesterday I dyno'd at 532 HP. So with less fuel the PDR HX-50/17 it netted me 39 HP. With the HX-40 I was seeing 7-10 HP for every .010 movement of the torque plate. Also on the dynojet all I saw for boost was 46 PSI in 5th and on the street I see 55-56 PSI that is why I moved my torque plate back some to keep the boost under 56 PSI at full throttle in 5th.
