PDR 40 Installed

Hey guys got my PDR40 Installed except for the downpipe. I was to tired last night to conquer that one! Anyone got any pics of the 40 installed! I just wanna compare! I have still not figured out the easiest way to hook the downpipe up though.

Re:PDR 40 Installed

Jamie,

The DP is the worst part. I cut my old DP off the truck before I installed the 40. I did leave plenty of pipe on the old downpipe to make certain there was enough pipe to be able to connect up to the new DP. Your new DP should have a flared end that you can slide over the old DP or what is left of it. I have had limited success using clamps on the joints between the DP and the rest of the system so I generally break out the mig and weld it all up. I was in a hurry last November after installing a DP and just clamped it on and when I dynoed the truck smoke was rolling up from under the truck where the DP was leaking. it looked kinda neat, but geesh it stunk!

Make certain you fill the turbo up with a few tablespoons of oil and rotate the blades while you do to help kinda prelube the thrust bearings before starting. I use a large syringe. Once it starts up make sure it has good oil pressure and take it real easy for a few hundred miles to let eveything "find its place"

Just make sure you dont wack off too much pipe from the old sytem or DP whatever the case may be. You might come up short if you do.

Good Luck,

Don~

Re:PDR 40 Installed

Hey Don Im almost ready to fire her up with your injectors! I got em all in but with no turbo I didn't wanna run it well I have the turbo on but I was scared to try and start it with no down pipe! My downpipe is not flared the other part is there the down is supposed to connect I just hope it will fit! Its the same size as my old one I just gotta get under the truck and finish the job! Im thinking of unbolting the second section of pipe the one the DP connects to then installing the down pipe hold the other up and trim as necessary! Hopefully ;D Thanks for the input I assume you do run the EDm's in your truck not sure the stage though! How does the 40 keep up?

Re:PDR 40 Installed

I have moved on frm the 40 to a slightly larger turbo, but when I ran 370 marines I had soo much mid range power it was incredible.

You might be able to push the main part of the exhaust system backwards with your leg and try to sneak the DP in while doing so.

Let me know how it all works out.

Good idea to not start the truck without a DP.

Don~

Re:PDR 40 Installed

If you start it with no DP will it just shoot a large flame out the back of the turbo? Like the headpipe would or is the flame stopped in the turbo? Im just curious! Honest!

Re:PDR 40 Installed

When I installed my exhaust, I fired it up straight turbo and I didn't have any flames at all. Didn't sound that good though.
