PAC Brake on an auto?

I've read that you're not suppose to put one on an auto, yet a guy I work with has one on his...it's 2001 I believe, 24V. So what's the bottom lie on this.? I hate the runaway feeling with 9-10K pushing me down these steep Utah mountains (those that haven't burned yet) :

Guess I should say I have the 47RE,, :'(

My buddy has one on his y2k, works great. It won't work on stock trans, unless you have a lock up device to keep the tranny locked, such as a Smart Control or such.
I think it would take out a stock tranny pretty fast.
If your considering it talk to Bill K. or someone that knows these tranny's.

This is due to the fact that a stock tranny doesn't lock up the torque converter till you hit 3rd gear.

Without the torque converter locked up, you have no direct connection to the engine.

If you add a lock up switch to a stock tranny, it doesn't have the pressure to keep the torque converter locked up, and you will slip and burn up the clutches.

Aftermarket tranny upgrades, valve body (increased pressures) and torque converter (more clutch material) and the ability to lock up in 2nd gear effectively, allow an exhaust brake to actually slow the truck down.

phox

I've got Bill K's (DTT) tranny mods, including his version of the Pac brake, and I love it. I've had the Pac brake for a year now, and it works like a charm. I took the fiver through the mountains of Kentucky, Tennessee, South Carolina, etc. last summer and the Pac brake was a real tranquilizer for me. If fact, I leave the Pac brake on most of the time, it really eases the use of the service brakes, even when not towing.

DeWain

I've got one (look at mods) and it holds fine. You will need some kind of TC lockup (DTT, BD, just to name a few, has them). If there is a will, there is a way...PM me if you would like further info...
Big dawg
