Question p7100 pump missing

A friend of mine has a 94 3500 2wd with a 160 pump and it will get a slight miss every now and again. He put my old 160 injectors and 131 DVs in it and it still has a miss. Its not all the time just some times.

Start with the aw shucks things
fuel return line
overflow valve
fuel heater (leak air)
fuel shut-off solenoid and control relay

No luck on the easy stuff then consider pulling the pump for a stand service job.

I was given a loaner but from Cousin Billy at BRC Diesel and it ran great on his truck but on mine it missed and stumbles really bad. checked fuel pressure and everything is great. I'm still holding 30PSI and my timming is around 16* I'm kinda worried th epump is headed south but I also just blew up my stock pump last month wandering why the p-pump is always called the king of pumps when they can't support 400HP for very long

I had a miss when one of my injectors was leaking. It sounded somewhat choppy but ran ok. I was rinsing off some oil when some water got on the injector and I noticed some bubbling. Anyways the copper washer was bad. Put new ones on and that solved my problem.

Probably because at 400hp your only using about a 1/3 of the fuel the pump can put out

Then I should still have a injection pump on my truck right?

"Should", probably...but at 285K miles I "should" have an engine that doesn't puke a quart of oil out the dipstick tube every 100 miles, and still have a high RPM miss, pop, and white smoke problem, either.

Still don't know if it has major problems or just VERY amplified smaller ones .

Wanna trade trucks???

The miss is coming from #1 cylinder, because from what he said that at the exhaust port at the exhaust manifold the temp is 40 degrees cooler when it starts missing.

Thanks for all your input.

Crack the injector line to the #1 injector and see if the engine sound changes...if it does, I think it's okay(well, to a point)...if it doesn't, something wrong with that injector.

OR

Move the injector to another cylinder...and see if the problem follows. If it does, bad injector, if it doesn't...bigger problems in the pump, or cylinder(maybe???)

HTH,
Chris

Chris

I gave him my 160 injectors when I put DD4s in mine, mine are in his truck now and it still does it. He bought the truck new in 94 and they changed the pump back when it was new for the same reason and it still does it. It doesn't do it all the time, just some times.

Doodah

I wish I had the money because I want your pump bad, but I think I'd buy it from you off of that other site because its $50.00 cheaper over there Why are you wanting more from us then them?

I'm plumb out of ideas then, sorry.

I'll be changing my pump soon to a 913 to see if that helps my 2200-2500 RPM white smoke, missing and poping.

Probably won't though, just my luck.

advance your engine timing, and stretch the spring in the overflow valve, and you should have no poping and no white smoke at all...

ive done that in many many 2gen doge specially 94, 95
