P1693 Code gah......
P1693 Code gah......
ok here it is....i installed a pair of twin turbos last week and today the engine light came on when driving down the road......checked it and it gave me a stupid 1693 im hoping this is a over boost code of some sort......i dont really have the money to be replacing hte injection pump at the moment.....
1693 is the code telling you that there is a code.
If the other code doesn't show up with the key on/off method, you'll need to have it scanned at a Dealership with their "special" scanner.

yes this is the only code.....im just wandering if other twin turbo members have had this come up?......i was expecting to see an overboost code long before this.....
The 0234 overboost DTC will not throw the 1693 DTC......the 0234 can be retrieved with the key on-off method.....it will also not throw the check engine light on.....Regardless, you have a Comp, how could you possibly get a 0234 DTC if the Comp is hooked up?
The 1693 DTC could mean there are any number of different codes stored in the ECM (not PCM) that are not retrievable without a DRB style scan tool. You will have to go to the dealer to have it scanned.

OK guys, just a little helpful tip, you DON'T have to go to the dealer to get the codes scanned, any shop worth their weight can scan the codes for you with a Snap-On or OTC scan tool. I especially like the OTC for Dodges, due to all the options for communicating with the computers.

The Intake Air Temp Sensor
Is seeing an unusually high reading,The air temp from the really high boost may be messing with the air temp sensor, you could have damadged it . The really high boost is creating really high temps in the intake. Are you pulling in cold air?Is it insulated from the engine compartment.I'm pushing 65lbs of boost and dont see an IAT code. The 1693 is what I think a normal code when you have high horsepower modifications.I see this code regularlly but it dosn't flag the light.I think its from logic that the different processors cant reconcile. For example the engine processor is only seeing 22lbs of boost cause the boost fooler, but the IAT is seeing 250deg of air temps.
The 1693 DTC does not mean anything other than that there is another code stored not in the PCM that is not retrievable without a scanner. That is why it is called the "companion code"......it should not be considered normal.
I wasn't impying that it was normal
I did say when you are heavily modifiyed, you create logic issues with some of the info.going in and out of the different processors.I have a scan tool that has factory capability.I see the 1693 regularly with no other codes in any of the other processors. For Example If you increased line pressure in the trans,You effect govenor pressure that creates a conflict with what it is, verses what it should be.In short if you set the 1693, AND there are no other codes,it is a consequence of high horsepower mods.
Are you using a DRB style or equivalent scanner? The 1693 needs another code stored elsewhere to trigger it in the first place.....it is another code that throws the 1693 - not an actual diagnostic problem or anomaly.
