Over boost

Well,

I finally went and got my codes checked yesterday and it was throughing the P0234? over boost. I thought that the EZ was supposed to take care of the computer so that this didn't happen. I don't have a boost elbow in, would this fix the problem?

Thanks,
Dave

No with the boost elbow it would make it worse, the boost elbow allows more boost than stock..............what's your boost #'s at right now......that will kinda help diagnose it!!

I am getting around 22-24 psi. Normally I don't go above 20 unless I get on it. Could it be that the box it bad? I think that I have read about others having this kind of problem.

yeah the wastegate is set at about 20psi stock so you shouldn't really be seeing that code..........wonder what's up........ does it seem to run ok other than just seeing the code???

I can't tell any difference. So you think it might be the waste gate sticking? I thought that the box is supposed to allow more boost because it isn't registering as much. Isn't that how you get more boost from the boxes, they tell the computer that it isn't that high so the waste gate doens't open?

no the box is suppose to fool the computer so it doesnt defuel the motor. The boost elbow on the turbo line from the outlet to the wastegate actuator is what opens tells the wastegate to open. the computer doesnt have anything to do with the wastegate itself

yeah the wastegate is mechanically controlled...........like said above all the box does is tell the computer it's only seeing the factory set boost level so it doesn't defuel your motor

The ez should have a boost fooler that would prevent the code from setting. First your waste gate is probably hanging up or you should not have seen an overboost in the first place. It should open when your boost is about 18 or 19. Second the ez should have prevented the ob code - check the connection on the map sensor from the ez to see if it's good and check the waste gate to see if it's hanging up. Last if you are still under warranty you need to be sure and clear the code before taking it to the dealer. No worries probably a simple fix.

I am wondering this too. I have seen 25 lbs of boost andi I was told that this might be the problem. Is this fixable or does it need to be replaced?

Does any one have an answer as to how we can check our waste gates or is there a way to replace them. Also, could this be the box malfunctioning?

Have not re read this thread, but have you tried removing EZ. If boost goes over factory limit of 20-22 psi, that would tell you you have a wastegate problem. If all is normal with EZ out...I would guess box is defective.
Re-Install the EZ w/ boost elbow and see what you get for boost (if normal without EZ). If you get code and defueling....EZ is bad - boost fooler is not working. This won't harm anything and should be conclusive.

No, I haven't gotten around to this yet. I was waiting for an answer to know if it was the box or the waste gate. I will try unhooking and let you know if it works. I read that the boost fooler would make me run more boost though, and I don't have one.

Thanks,
Dave

Well the boost fooler won't allow you to get more boost, all that does is tell your computer that you are only getting a certain amount of boost so the computer won't throw a code. The EZ has a boost fooler built in to it, so technically it shouldn't be throwing that code..............I think it's your box malfunctioning!!!

Now the wastegate is what allows you to get more boost, try what was said earlier and remove the EZ and see what your boost #'s are, that way you can tell if the wastegate is sticking.......

Just to be sure we're all on the same page...
The boost fooler will allow you to run with more boost, IF you have the power to generate it. The Boost elbow will close off the wastegate so no air gets to it, thus giving you max boost your power set up can generate.

With a good EZ, I think you would generate more boost than stock, at heavy throttle....but you need to install the elbow to get it.
Sorry if I'm restating the obvious. Your above statement sounds like there may be some misunderstanding on where the added boost comes from!

Good Luck
