blowin' to much black

can some one out there(tech guy) explain why i cant pass emissions? have friends with older ,higher mileage ctd's and they dont blow near the smoke i do with the afc dialed back so far it free spins. by the way, is that normal? any body have any ideas? hole in afc diaphram, gov arm out of adj., truck has no engine mods...yet. someone, anyone, am i writing nonsense to myself?

The looser the AFC spring is,the more low end fuel and smoke you will see.To pass emissions you may need to wean it some by sliding the plate all the way back and tighten the tension on the AFC spring quite a bit.

When did Idaho start doing emissions testing on diesels????....Andy
