Another one Bites the dust... VP44 that is.
Hey Guys,
Well the Vp44 on my truck appears to be on the way out again... I had a new one put on 1-7-06 and on 1-17-07 I got a dead pedal. (About 70,000 miles)So I pulled the codes and got the dreaded 0216 plus a couple others. When I had Mass diesel put on the VP he also put on the FASS lift pump with the big line kit. I get a dead pedal about once a day.I haven't seen the fuel pressure drop below 12lbs ever. So I guess it's time for a new VP. So here's my question, how are the HRVPs holding up? I know some say they make more power and some say they don't, but do they last better then the reman VPs? I have got to give Scott a call at Mass diesel to see if he may be able to work with me on this one but I doubt there is much he'll be able to do. The pump only had a 1 yr warranty, not a 1 yr and 20 days...If only I would have gone for that 20 day exstended warranty...
Thanks,
Topper

Couldn't hurt to try, at least if Mass Diesel would like to retain their customer base. I know this is sort of unrelated, but I work for a reputable HVAC company with a customer base of over 20,000 in about a 60-mile radius and part of how we do that is by backing up the products we sell & the work we do. We usually can get people covered up to 30 days out of warranty (limited by product manufacturer, but we can sometimes influence them to bend the rules.)

Well that sucks. I just replaced mine about 3 weeks ago and I got if from Scott over a Mass diesel too. I hope mine doesn't crap out. To be honest with you I think I'm about sick and tired of my truck. It goes to the shop about once every 2 or 3 months. Talk about a MONEY PIT....

Thanks guys,
Don't get me wrong I'm not saying anything bad about Scott. He's done great work for me and I know he uses good products but let's face it - these VP44s suck big time! I'll call him today see what he says. I put on alot of hard miles just about everyday. My real question is are the Hot Rod VP44 worth it? Do they last longer then the Non Hot Rod VPs. You guys that have them how are they holding up? Do they really add power?
Thanks again,
Topper

The HRVP's shouldn't last any longer than an HO or SO pump. They are the same pump, just combo of the two. I'm one who is against the HRVP do to cost. If you want more power buy a stock pump and pump some type of box. You could buy a stock pump and a smarty and be money and IMO power ahead.

I run II SHOVP44, they should last longer mechanically because of new parts inside but the electronics are the same. Yes! You will gain 80hp!!.

Thanks guys,
Well I talked to Scott and he is willing to pull my pump and send it back for warranty. Who knows maybe they'll send me a new one. I doubt it though. I went ahead and ordered a HRVP anyway. Scott is going to put it on next Saturday. I may try to arrange a dyno run before and after.I'll keep ya informed

Hi guys,
b.lee I don't know much about that conversion. I know it can be done but haven't researched it. Maybe I should have. How many guys have done it and does it work well?
Thanks,
