nv 5600

how hot should a nv 5600 run. My dad's truck runs 200 degrees.

That's about normal. Mine will run upwards of 220+ when towing heavy on a hot day.

The 5600 actually runs warmer/hotter in 6th than it does in 5th. If you find that it's getting warm , downshift to 5th and you will actually see the temp come down. A lot of times, the hill that you can comfortably climb in 6th will put a lot of heat into the trans versus the same hill in 5th with a little more rpm.

Also, how much fluid are you running in this trans? The factory fill is not enough. Pull the shift tower off from inside the cab and add fluid to bring it to 6 full quarts in the trans. This will help with cooling it as well as some oiling issues that will eventually lead to some failures.

I look at it as oil is cheap compared to a rebuild, change the oil often.
