New Trans?

I am thinking about putting a new transmission on my truck. Right now I just have a stock 5spd. I'm thinking about putting on a 6spd. What are some other manual trannies I could put on? Anyone else done this?

Depends on what you want to do with it. A 6 spd and 5 spd have the same low gear and the same high gear, it's just a closer ratio in between. I suppose if you tow heavy stock, this would help you. Many of the sled pullers run the 5 speed manual. If you are looking for more streetable power or quickness, say for the 1/4 mile, then an auto swap would be best. Get a DTT, ATS, Suncoast, Goerand or the like to start and be done with it.

I don't do any heavy pulling and would like quicker times, but I want to keep a manual transmission, just because it is so much more fun to drive.

yep, I'd keep the 5 speed then. You should just make sure to take care of the overdrive (5th) nut so it doesn't back off. I know there is a fix for this, but since I have a 6 speed, I haven't paid much attention.
