Need to replace Pyrometer probe?

My Banks pyrometer used to be accurate but now appears to be reading falsely (not enough half of what it should be). Where can I go to get a replacement probe? Seems like all I can find is the complete gauge setup. I just need the probe and the leads about 10" long like I currently have. Any direction would be appreciated.

Can I test the probe to see if I am having a gauge problem? What millivolts should it be putting out at what temperature? Maybe the probe is good and the gauge has crapped.

IMO get rid of the banks and get a different gauge. or have you called banks and see if they will sell one seperate for you.

K-type thermocouples are cheap unless you have to get a namebrand, then you just pay for name. They all output the same voltage per temp. I custom ordered my own from Omega. They were quick to ship and EXCELLENT quality. My probe is not shielded and has super quick response. I use it in my turbo 2.4L Neon which sees more EGT than my truck and no issues with burnout yet at all. If it does I'll gladly buy another for ~$35 or so it costs.

I call banks or visit there web site. I had to get a new probe for my autometer phantom II and it takes a probe with a 10 pin connector.

Wierd. I'd like to see the diagram on that one. My Autometer had a normal two wire yellow and red lead K-type thermocouple. Way overpriced.

Its like a regular autometer thermocouple but all the wires go into a connector that plugs into the back of gauge. Found it for 70 dollars. 5251 is part number of it

How long of a probe should I get? I see them listed for 1.5 inches and 2.5 inches. I'd think the 1.5 would be more than long enough, but I've been wrong before.

Imo I would get the 2.5 inch. Better to be a little long than too short. Im thinkin you should be able to adjust how far it goes in the manifold. But Ive been wrong before too.

Normally, yes you can adjust how far it goes into the manifold before swedging the manifold fitting. Depends on how the fitting to manifold is I guess.

I measured the manifold cross section, took half of that and added 3/4" to that for the fitting. W and to keep the tip in the middle of the manifold cross section. Not sure I remember what length I got though.
