Need a good jack for a 4x4 03! please
Re:Need a good jack for a 4x4 03! please
I suggest you do what I did. Buy a hydralic bottle jack. I use a 5 ton adjustable top. If you get one, I suggest you go ahead and get one that will operate on its side also. Not real expensive and you will be suprised how often you use it.
Ed

I need to find a jack for changing tires on the road. I already have a high lift for off road. The stocker is a bad joke.

Won't the Hi-lift work just as well on the highway?
If your looking for something portable, sherod's suggestion is a great one, just make sure it has enough lift while still being able to get it under the axle.
I have a really old bottle jack, threaded extension, but is rusted in the upmost position and is too tall for initial lift.
Have to use the stock jack positioned on a brick to lift truck high enough to get the 5-tonner under to lift the rest of the way to get the tires off the ground.
3 ton floor jack, like Craftsman's "SUV Jack" (21" travel) work excellent,
can lift the whole front end from the differential.
Kinda big though, but can be stowed in the trailer or bed tool box.

:'( Not to slam anyone but you should never use the "pumpkin" (differential) to lift the truck. It was not designed for the weight to be lifted at that point. You should only lift from the spring perches or the frame. Just good engineering practice.

OK, I'll revise my statement.

The craftsman SUV jack "can" lift the whole front end from the differential, therefore, lifting one side for a tire change is no problem for this jack.

;D

phox
