Angry Muffler Shop really tickin' me off!

I have tried countless times to get my muffler and "resonator" cut off and have a piece of pipe run though to straight pipe it. Every muffler shop refuses to do that and they keep on telling me that the object i am calling the resonator is a cat. So i have called dodge dealerships and looked all over on here and everyone keeps on saying that it is infact a resonator b/c dodge didn't put cats on their diesels until 02. What do i do??? Is there anyway that i can tell if its a cat by just looking at it?

Don't know what else to tell you, but my 98 12V DOES have a cat. I know for a fact because the dang thing really did fall off when the clamps rusted into oblivion.

The cat was still clean and you can see thru the stuff inside. (Or at least a month ago you could). Truck has 149,000 on it so I'm not too worried about it clogging up.

My 02 didn't have a catalytic converter. Just a muffler and resonator (I know it's a resonator - it's still on my garage floor).

some places will straight pipe it if you cut it off yourself....

they are leary about chopping anything out of an system cause of the laws and fines that are present for chopping a cat, but all that applies to the gassers...

cut it off yourself....go to a muffler shop and measure the distance of pipe cut off.....then have them give you a piece of pipe. Then put it on yourself!!!

Or the midas' up here (same as meineke down there...i think), did my buddies with no problems.....because it is not illegal too cut the cat off af a diesel.

12 VALVES have catalytic converters on them. Go to NAPA and get a riece of pipe long enough to extend the length of both the muffler and converter. Get the 3" double swaged couplings and the clamps and you are done. 1 hour tops. Very cheap too. Then take it back to show them.

If your 98 is a 12 valve, then you do have a cat.
