Muffler Removal
Can anyone give me some detailed instructions on the best and easiest way to remove my muffler and the POS thingy infront of it and put the 3inch pipe in there. I DO NOT want to cut off the muffler or cat incase i want to reinstall it. So is there any easy way to do this. I've gotten both of the bolts off of each clamp but i cant get the piping to budge.
i used a die grinder with a cutting wheel and cut 4 slits on each end, pried them loose enough and pulled the muffler and res out as 1 unit. then i think it was 62 1/2 inches long with a 2 inch offset. took half an hourto get out and 15 minutes to put back. hope that helps
Exact lengths on the peices and number used would be extremely helpful to myself and others as well im sure. I am dying to do this to mine but cant find the down time on the truck to tear it out and then try to find all the right pieces (if even possible). However if I can round up all the parts before the destruction, I can tackle the whole thing in an hour or so I figure.
A grinder or a torch to remove it. You need to measure the distance that you need to fill. Go to a local muffler shop and see if they got what you need (3in flared on both side's if possible) Or just tell the muffler shop what you want and have them do it. I have found that alot of muffler shops have odd-ball scraps just lay'in around and usually will just charge you labor. Just my .02
Would a 5 inch straight dumped under the bend be too much until I can get some tailpipes as far as loudness? Does the downpipe have an effect on the sound and how loud it is? Thanks.
heres my old post from when i did it with the measurements for my 01.5

There is no easy way to get the cat or muffler off. When I pulled mine off I heated up the slip joint with a torch and just keep wiggling it back and forth & pulling at the same time, you have to heat it up almost red hot where the clamp was so you can reexpand the metal.

Mine met the sawzall...I measured the whole piece (muffler & resonator), added four inches, went to Midas, got the pipe with a flare on both ends. Reused the old clamps, and had my buddy weld the joints....sounds awesome !
I can't remember what the exhaust system looks like off the top of my head, but is it necessary to have hangers on the pipe that replaces the muffler? I thought there were hangers before and after, but I could be wrong.

Did it yesterday, spent a while trying to get old stuff out without ruining it then ended up cutting it anyhow. measurments on the link were perfect as long as you dont cut away any of the pipe leading into or out of the res and muff.
