Are Monroe Shocks Good?

I always have to ask the peanut gallery opinions on stuff before I jump. I just need to replace the stock shocks. I tow ocassionally, no off road so Rancho 9000 may be over kill, Bilstein look good, but I can get a set of Monroe top of the line and save $80. Lifetime warranty

Thoughts?

I've been running the Monroes from Sears for about a year. I'm happy with them.

Our 97 had Monroe Reflexs when we bought it. The PO told us they where about a year old. Both fronts where leaking shortly after we bought it and they where cetianly not ideal. When I got the Bilstiens I called to price the monroes and they where $6 more per shock then the Bils. I got both sets off EBAY. They where cheaper by $50 total for both shocks then the next closest after shipping.

The old ones still had some life left but the ride is multiple time better then it was. Not as much on road then off, but still improved it. The 99 made a huge diff on road but the old gabrials we completly dead on it.

Since my Monroe's came with a lifetime warranty and are way better than the stockers I find it hard to complain

I don't care to mess around with the Left front shock that often. I'll see how these last.

I have put Monroe's on all my trucks with great success. I have friends with Rancho's and for the price, I don't see the big deal, I don't like them myself. Good marketing is all I see with the Rancho brand..

My Monroe warranty came with free replacement labor, I'll never have to touch my shocks again...

Well, I installed two on the front waiting for the rears to arrive and all I can say is Monroes Reflex are junk. From the second I strated down the driveway I could feel a rattle / clunking that was not there to begin with. The lower bolt hole was larger and the bushing is "shorter" than the OEM so it rattled and bounced around on the bolt. Yes, the bolts were tight, impact wrench tight, and they could not be tightened anymore. So after riding around for several days I decided to put the old one back on and it's smooth as silk again.
There were NO instructions in or on the box. ZERO! So how much do you compress the rubber washer in the shock towers? Idunno......

The shaft that sticks through the shock tower on the OEM is hex to fit a 9mm wrench. Morones (misspelled on purpose) have two flats on them.

I can honestly say there is NO difference between my 190K miles original shocks and brand new Monroes. NONE!

Monroes Reflex are JUNK! Don't waste your money.

** UPDATE **

Finally got the cluncking out by WAY over tighten the bottom bolt after adding shims. What a PITA!
