Modified Air Box

I'm thinking of sticking with the stock air box , but modifing
it with a hole saw. My question is what is the best replacement
filter available (AFE , Airaid , UNI , Etc.) and by this I mean filtration
close to or equal to the stock paper filter. In my mind I need to
gain at least 40% airflow over stock filter with good filtration
or it's not worth the swap. I know alot of companies claim extra
flow on their intake systems but what about a replacement
filter in the stock air box. Any independant studies on these claims ?

I saw one study in a TDR magizine where the AFE flowed better than no filter at all.
Impossible, I figured the whole study was trash after seeing that.

Since you have the BHAF on your wishlist, just go for it.

Stock airbox is just crap, IMHO.

Restrictive, leaky, ick.

Stock airbox with the rubber boot removed is good to around 500 rwhp.

Im sure it will supply the air to 500hp probably, but the more air you can flow, the better you will be for sure. Just get a BHAF for $30 or so, and be done with it. If you do stick with the stock box, Just buy a good filter for it. The only real difference you'll see with an air filter is EGT's anyway.
